Why an electric car needs skates and a flatbed
An electric car’s motor is connected to the wheels all the time. If the car is pulled along on its wheels with no power, the motor turns as a generator and can overheat or damage the drive unit and the battery pack. That’s why every EV handbook says: do not tow on the wheels, use a flatbed. We go one step further. When the car has no power it often can’t be put into neutral or transport mode, so we lift it on four wheel skates and winch it onto the flatbed with none of its wheels turning.
